Transfer Credits to Galen College of Nursing

If an applicant is currently attending or has attended a school other than Galen College with a related curriculum, credit might be obtained for those courses. A request for evaluation of prior courses and credits must be submitted at the time of initial application to Galen.

A copy of the official transcript(s) of the courses to be considered for transfer must be sent to Galen directly from each school, college, or university attended. Consideration of transfer credits will generally not be made once the student has begun coursework; this includes any course a student may take at another college or university while enrolled in Galen. At least 51% of course credits required for graduation must be earned at Galen College.

Only general education courses listed in the curriculum plan may be options for transfer to Galen. Science and mathematics –oriented general education courses will be considered if they have been completed within the last ten (10) years. Special consideration may be given to students with prior completed degrees. Galen generally will not accept for transfer any nursing courses required for the RN program.

The Dean or Program Director will have discretion to accept or reject transfer credits. Applicants may be requested to provide a copy of the school catalog with course description and/or a syllabus for the course. To be considered for transfer credit, a grade of “C” or higher must have been earned in the course; science and math courses which required more than one attempt to earn a grade of “C” or higher will not be considered for transfer credit. Transfer credit coursework grades will not be computed into the student’s Galen grade point average (GPA).
